- If you can't afford to get away to an island retreat this winter, where you can sample the local food, customs and flora while recharging your
batteries. I've got a local alternative, Mango's Reggae Cafe' at 554 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair (973-744-7770),
offers authentic and scrumptios Jamaican dishes like Jamaican Style Brown Stew Chicken, Jerk Port, Coconut Shrimp, Pepper
Pot soup and Escoveitched Fish.
I recently had a Sunday
brunch there that was awesome (as good or better as the dining experience we had last year on a pricey resort in Negril).
The cornmeal porridge alone takes the concept of comfort food to a whole other level of bliss.
Mango's also has music,
catering, take-out and special events. I can't wait to go back. What could be better on a cold winter's morning
that a steaming bowl of creamy, nutmeg-seasoned porridge, a cup of piping hot Jamaicn Blue Mountain coffee and a slice of
Mango's rum cake?
